We didn’t seem to acquire as many second-hand books this month. The library sale that seems to have been going on at our local library for months (perhaps in preparation for its relocation later in the year?) has yielded two more children’s books: A Clarice Bean book for slightly older fans of Lauren Child, plus an Allan Ahlbery poetry book ‘Heard it in the Playground’. My husband also picked up the Stewart Lee book in Oxfam and couldn’t put it down he was so laughing so hard. I also discovered the American author, Philip Roth, and read ‘The Plot Against America’ in a week. I do like a bit of alternative history fiction and found his novel about a Nazi-appeasing government in power in 1940s America both fascinating and unnerving. I actually bought the book from a second-hand shop a couple of years ago. To celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday I had collected together 40 inches’ worth of books, both first and second-hand, as a gift to this bookworm.
